Thinking back on it, I wonder if I judged the first season of Star Trek: Discovery so harshly because I was unconsciously comparing it to StarBlazers 2199, which had come out 5 years earlier and is still kinda my platonic ideal for “more modernized and more military-focused Star Trek-derived story.”

Like, it’s a war story, it has shades of grey, the Japanese title is literally “Space Battleship,” but it doesn’t feel as misanthropic or cynical as, say, the Battlestar Galactica reboot.

They still make time for exploring strange new worlds and doing diplomacy with strange alien cultures. They find weird space things instead of just fighting the enemy (or each other) all the time!

The other half of it though, is that Discovery kind of loses focus on the war. I think they were chasing the dragon of Game of Thrones so to speak and so put a greater emphasis on intrigue and spycraft which I don’t think they really pulled off. Despite supposedly being "a Star Trek war story" the war mostly happens off-screen and gets resolved with essentially a genocide-threat deus ex machina.

SBY2199 isn’t realistic by any means, but it still captures a “sci-fi” feel a lot more than Star Trek has for a long time.

Astronomical phenomena are plot-relevant terrain instead of just background decoration.

Ships slide sideways and backwards while fighting, shoot at each other from outside visual range, and don’t always have the same orientation in 3D space.

Energy weapons melt and cut instead of just making explosions.

The insides of the ships feel cramped, claustrophobic, and like they logically fit inside the exterior model, instead of having huge cavernous spaces.

holy hell are people unable to treat children with any amount of respect like I know it is hard for some people to believe but guess what kids are their own human beings who deserve to have their autonomy respected I am so sick of seeing people treat kids like the property of their legal guardian (the fact that the law sees it that way doesn't either) your child is not your property they are their own person who should have the right to be treated as such Like gods kids can have some very smart and well-thought ideas and people dismiss them because "Oh they are just X years old what do they know"

Not to vague at anyone but I've been seeing a lot of posts responding to Veilguard criticism that entirely miss the point of those criticisms.

No, my frustration with Rook's characterization isn't that there are limitations to a video games PC. It's that there are scant options to RP in the RPG and fewer options to make choices beyond 'do you want to do this quest y/n?' in a game series which previously bent over backwards to explore the idea of how far is too far for the greater good.

No, my frustration with the way the world seems to have changed is not that the there is a change or even that those changes are underexplained. It's that those changes feel more like reboots that don't want to continue the narrative of the previous games. Sure, the differences in the Crows could be chocked up to a differences in the Houses, or the change in how Circles are described could be because how the Mage-Templar war ended but A) that's never actually addressed or even lamp shaded B) the worldstate removal means that the changes can't be a consequence for past actions because it happened regardless of whatever occurred in the last three games!

No, the number of times the word 'okay' is used doesn't inherently make the game poorly written. The change in the writing voice, anachronist word choices, and flattening of characters into marvel quip speak is just best quantified by word choice.

Perhaps most frustratingly, No, my trans ass isn't somehow scandalized by the mere existence of a nonbinary person. There is plenty of transphobic bs being flung at the game, at Taash, and at the devs but acting like being critical of how Taash is written is exclusively due to transphobia just isn't true and it does boil my blood just a little when I see a post claiming that everyone critical of Taash's character is antitrans.

i’m seeing a lot of people on instagram and irl praising president elect trumps most recent statement regarding the hostage crisis and middle east strife.

they say this should have been americas stance from october 8th 2023 onward. while i agree the focus on the hostages has waned globally and our concern should really be rescuing who we can and those responsible should be held accountable, the language of this post is rhetorically manipulative to the jewish community. he is telling a lot of us what we want to hear, we want someone to really stand up for us on the political stage (ritchie torres) and stay with their full chest that they are on our team— but this message is not doing that. this message is that of a war monger drumming up his base to create more chaos as the transition of power becomes an even larger public spectacle. i can tell because he says the world wants the hostages back. that it’s demonstrably false. for example, a staffer to the new york city mayors office was suspended without pay this week for tearing down hostage posters.

this statement from trump uses the hostages to bolster a hawkish sentiment that is growing into mainstream.

i don’t have answers or edits to his statement. it speaks for itself. i’m just very tired. tired of this rhetoric, tired of every day bringing conflicting reports of broken ceasefires and coalitions of global powers backing theocratic regimes.

the path to peace is fraught with violent traps and i see far too many of us falling into it over and over again. people i regard as brilliant are taking trumps statement as a net positive. i have a sick feeling its not.

You can keep reading the DeceptiBee au and be assured that Bee won't die- but when that fic is done I might do an alternate ending with it where Bee does die- like a series.

But i'll write it in a way You don't need to read the previous fic to understand what's happening. That first chapter is gonna recap and compress the story and it won't reff the previous fic other than 'Bee was a decepticon who died'

I guess that Au would be called 'SecondBee au' or 'TwoBees au' since theres another one. idk i'm bad at names.

So about this Au, it's in the tfone continuity. Where Bee choose to follow megatron when he got banished. He died. War raged on and then another Bee is forged right before Primus peaces out. And then a lot of bad things happen to him C:

I don't remember which continuity Tfone is attached to (it can't be the bayverse don't lie to yourself) but Imma say that the endgame to this is Earthspark (because it's the happiest ending we're getting so far) so I might even write to that part because since new bee and megatron are on the same side now I smell some good sad times.

Just to be raw and honest here's a truth about Book Sirius and James , they were rich classist bastards the only reason they are seen as good people is because they are praised by EXTREMELY biased people who are telling an orphaned child about his parents. The book is from Harry's point of view, so as long as he is stating an opinion and not a visual fact , it is a biased opinion.

James Potter was Draco Malfoy of the marauders era , he was rich , he was perverted , he treated people lower than him like shit and yes he treated Lily like shit too. And no, the only people who said James matured up were the two most biased best friends of James Potter telling an orphan child about his father. The only difference between Draco and James is that the Potters were fighting alongside Dumbledore and raised a spoiled bastard brat . The Malfoy were fighting alongside Voldemort and raised a spoiled bastard brat.

Sirius black was canonically not a purist only because he hated his parents. He was raised in an abusive household where he was always jealous of his younger brother. There is no proof that Regulas ever did anything against him, and the only thing he ever stated was that Regulas was considered a much better son.

Sirius Black is repulsive and always took his anger out on random people hexing and torturing them.

No, there is no canon mention of a death eaters Slytherin gang that the marauders used to fight against only Sirius' very much biased words. The people Sirius does refer to are Lucius, Avery , Mulciber, and Snape mainly . Lucius is 5 years older than Snape and even though the age group of Avery and the rest are not mentioned, it is only canon that Lily mentions them as Slytherins, there is no canon gang possible given their age groups and even if there was, Snape has got to be the young boy they were grooming.

There is no mention of Snape ever attacking the marauders until after James molested him, and that is also a biased opinion about Snape fighting back to James and Sirius.

He may have been a very loyal friend to James, but literally, everyone, including Remus, was ready to believe he betrayed the Potters. Do you see the kind of reputation he had for everyone ?

Also, Sirius black tried to murder Snape using Remus as a murder weapon, and there's not a single person that ever mentions the fact that Sirius wanted the person he always tormented to be mauled by a werewolf and he chose his own friend to be the one comiting the murder.

Keep seeing posts of pro-endos who used to be anti-endo talking about "Ugh, anti-endo spaces are so toxic" which is not necessarily bad, there are bad anti-endo spaces out there and people are allowed to vent about how those spaces hurt them

I do have a problem when they use that as an excuse to call us all toxic and cruel. I've seen many saying things like "Anti endos are so horrible, I'm so glad I'm not one of those monsters anymore"

You need to understand we aren't the monsters you make us out to be. We're traumatized people, trying our hardest to survive with something debilitating, who can't help but see endos as mocking, whether they truly are or not. We can't help but see endos as invading our spaces.

We didn't get to have safe spaces most of the time. We didn't get to be around people who cared about us and understood us. Even those of us that did have a safe space had it poisoned by trauma elsewhere. We spent our childhoods afraid, isolated, and so agonizingly alone, feeling like we were better off dead, that we were freaks, that we were the only ones in the world going through this. This community we made for ourselves was one we had to fight through years of hell to get.

So when random people come over trying to insist that they're "just like us" and demanding to be let in, despite having only one or two things in common that we couldn't even trust they truly had, of course we'll be fucking defensive. In our eyes, you're trying to take the safe spaces we fought tooth and nail for away from us, whether you truly are or not. In our eyes you're people who know nothing about us or what we went through, and continue to go through, trying to barge into our havens and bloat it with bullshit, whether that's what you're trying to do or not.

We've been hurt so many times, by so many people, for so long. Why the fuck would we take a chance on people that are so suspect? You claim to have alters just like us, yet without any of the other symptoms of our disorders. You claim to be systems, yet without being caused by the immense trauma we had to suffer through. Hell, some of you claim that you made your alters for fun, just because you can.

Of course we're wary and defensive. We don't want to even risk losing the spaces we worked so damn hard to get.

If you've had a bad experience with anti-endo spaces, and are pro-endo now because of it, that's fine by me and I understand completely. But that doesn't make us all villians. That doesn't make us all evil monsters.

And besides, many of us have been hurt by pro-endo/mixed origin spaces too. We've seen people have horrible experiences with them. (Let's not forget endos started as natural multiples, who were notoriously shitty, cruel, and discriminatory toward any and all traumagens, and that a lot of that same rhetoric is still rampant in the community, AND that the community at large has basically just decided to pretend that never happened.

I won’t go too in depth about why I dislike her, because I’d be here typing for hours, but,

I have several reasons for my dislike of the light fury, the main one being that she is a plot device.

Being a plot device on its own isn’t necessarily bad, but it’s the fact that she has no character at all other than ‘Grr I hate human, human bad I’m a female.’ This is the character I’m supposed to believe Toothless up and left Hiccup for and i can’t tell you anything about her other than she’s wild, hates humans and it’s kind of an ass.

The other main reason is her design. Bland, looks like a Pokémon and is unbearably feminine. Tiny feet that at some points are literally smaller than her pupils, smoothed out scales with little to no defined edges, smooth wing membranes (what the fuck??? Why are the parts of her that are meant to move the most so stiff???) no spikes because she’s a female!!! Can’t possibly have any sharp edges because woman!!!

Her entire character is being a girly dragon and her only purpose is to be Toothless’ girlfriend. It was a cheap ending to an amazing franchise and I will FOREVER be salty.

But I do like drawing light furies because I like making them look like they’d actually fit in universe
